NHS waiting list down, but behind targets

List still above 7.5m patients

The NHS has released its wait list statistics, with the total number of patients awaiting treatment sitting at 7.54m at the end of February 2024.

This number represents a slight decrease from the previous month, which sat at 7.57m at the end of January 2024. The numbers also showed a continued decrease in the number of those waiting, from its peak at 7.7m in September 2023. The number of those waiting less than 18 weeks sits at 4.3m, making up 57.6% of those in the list overall. However, those waiting for more than a year is still above the 300,000 mark (at 305,050) and those waiting more than 18 months totally at almost 10,000.
