Guardian introduces underwriting changes for HIV applications

Guardian has announced changes to its underwriting process aimed at simplifying applications for those living with HIV.

The challenger insurer today (13 September) detailed that subject to meeting certain criteria in terms of age, CD4 count and viral load, applicants can be offered terms for life cover without requiring further medical evidence. While all cases of HIV will require an underwriter assessment, Guardian estimates that "around 50%" of disclosures of HIV could be accepted based solely upon the answers given on the application, without "the delays associated with requesting specialist medical letters."
