The UK Supreme Court is set to rule on 30 August regarding the case of a woman denied bereavement payment as a result of her marital status - the first ruling of its kind in Belfast. Siobhan McLaughlin was denied both a lump sum of £2,000 bereavement payment, as well as a widowed parent allowance of £118 a week, as a result of being unmarried. This was despite having here lived with John Adams for 20 years, and the couple having four children together.
