Mortality rates for those aged 90 years and over have not improved since 2011 due to dementia

Life expectancy has been increasing in recent decades in the UK, however the rate of this has been slowing down since 2011, a report from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) has found. The ‘Changing trends in mortality: a cross-UK comparison, 1981 to 2016' analysis also found that mortality rates have generally continued to improve for those aged 55 to 89 years in the UK, however the rate has slowed, while rates for those aged 90 years and over in the UK has shown no improvement since 2011.
