Last week, we gave an overview of what changing mortality trends might mean for protection. Since then, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has published its analysis of winter-related deaths in England and Wales compared to previous years going back to 1991/1992. As claims managers will know, especially for those with over-65s whole of life products, sadly Christmas and New Year can be a busy time for all the wrong reasons, with more deaths occurring over winter months (December to March in this context) than through the rest of the year.
